INVITATION FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF THE GENERAL MANAGER: SOUTH AFRICAN GRAIN INFORMATION SERVICE
The strategic core function of the South African Grain Information Service (SAGIS) is the gathering, processing, analysing and timeous distribution of reliable agronomic information to all role-players.
SAGIS is also entrusted with other functions, for example the monitoring of import tariffs as well as audit certificates for minimum market access. SAGIS is based in Pretoria. SAGIS is currently engaged in a process of identifying a new General Manager. SAGIS is being assisted in its efforts by Signium Africa.
They will be searching for a dynamic leader with the following requirements:
BCom degree (Business Management/Financial Management/Agricultural Economics or equivalent).
5 years’ experience in a similar and relevant managerial position.
Extensive industry expertise on the primary products and utilisation of grain and oilseeds in South
Knowledge of international production and movement of grains and oilseeds.
Knowledge regarding the institutions in South Africa with regards to grains and oilseeds including
Forums, Trusts, DAFF, SAGL and industry organisations such as Agbiz, Grain SA, NCM, SACB, etcetera.
Background knowledge regarding the functioning of grain and oilseeds markets in South Africa
especially, but also on a global basis.
Reasonable knowledge of the marketing of the Agricultural Products Act.
Good knowledge of the statutory measures of SAGIS.
Knowledge regarding other legislation and policies applicable to agricultural products such as the
Access to Information Act, Agricultural Product Standards Act, Competition Act, food security and
food safety policies.
Basic development knowledge of web-based applications with SQL server database will be an
